orlando-bloom-shirtless SPL78363_001     ::: A deliciously fake-inked Orlando Bloom showed off the tats that makeup artists have created for his role as a rocker in the forthcoming movie Sympathy for the Delicious. New York Post points out that the sun to the left of his navel is real, but the other intriguing markings are not. We’re pretty sure, however, that the hair is yet another unfortunate wig for the hunk, but even with it, he’s looking hot in shots that Gossip Girl got from a scene from the film now in production. The movie is about a crippled LA DJ, "Delicious" Dean O'Dwyer (played by Chris Thornton), who discovers that he has the power to heal everyone but himself.  It stars Mark Ruffalo, who is also directing.

In a story published this week in the major gay news website, 365Gay.com, which is owned by Viacom’s Logo network, the site’s writers misrepresent long-available information as something new.

The story’s lead paragraph states:

Newly released figures from the California secretary of state’s office show that the biggest contributor to the campaign to approve a ban on same-sex marriage in the state was the Knights of Columbus, the political arm of the Roman Catholic Church, which gave $1.275 million.

While it’s accurate to say that “newly released” figures show that, the story’s lead and its headline, “New Figures: Catholics, Evangelical groups outspent Mormons on Prop 8”, are inaccurate. 365gay suggests that the figures represent new information. They don’t. It has been known since long before the vote that the KoC was the largest individual organizational donor to the Prop. 8 campaign’s coffers.

::: The first-ever out lesbian or gay person to lead a world government takes the helm today in Iceland. After a week of protests that sometimes turned violent, the small island country's ruling government led by center-right prime minister Geir Haarde stepped down last night. A coalition of center-left parties appointed Johanna Sigurdardottir  of the Social Democratic Alliance to lead Iceland to elections between April and June. Iceland was hit hard by the global financial crisis when its over-extended banks collapsed under a weight of debt, forcing the country to take a $10 billion International Monetary Fund-led rescue package. Sigurdardottir, 66, will be sworn in at 6 pm (10 am PT) on Sunday. A former flight attendant who entered politics through union activism, she has been in Iceland's Parliament for 30 years, and was minister of social affairs in the outgoing government. Sigurdardottir is married to author and playwright Jonina Leosdottir, 54.
