A guy reportedly named after Ronald Reagan beat out Kylie Minogue, Judy Garland, Elton John, and even David Beckham to be crowned the top "Gay Icon" by a European website, soccer site Goal.com reports.

Meet Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro. Just "Ronaldo" to his fans.

He's a Portuguese-born member of Manchester United football team, noted for scoring 42 goals last season. But that's probably not the reason he made it to the top of a list of gay icons compiled by a members-only British dating site, GayGoldDiggers.com.

Move over, Beckham: futbol hunk Ronaldo picked as top 'Gay Icon' [contd.]

A spokesman for fee-based dating site (which is clearly digging for free-advertising links with its list)  released this explanation: "Ronaldo’s ripped body, slicked-back hair, shiny white teeth and jewelry swung the votes his way. He looks like any gay man or woman’s dream. What with being Footballer of the Year, scoring 42 goals last season and former girlfriends saying he is talented off the pitch, he seems to have everything going for him."

According to a bio on GoalVideoz.com, the name "Ronaldo" is relatively rare in his native Portugal, but his parents named him after former US president Ronald Reagan, not for political reasons, but because Reagan was (unaccountably) his father's favorite actor.

3. Judy Garland

5. Liza Minnelli
6. The Village People
7. David Beckham
